hydraulic pistonrod

Hydraulic piston rods are applied on a broad variety of industrial areas such as civil, industrial and offshore. Hydraulic piston rods for sluice doors, cranes, dams and on board of vessels, minery. The surface has to resist aggressive environmental conditions such as wear and corrosion. Especially the combination of wear and corrosion will shorten the cycle lifetime drastically. After years of laboratory tests and R&D with FDO, TNO, DNV a great effort has been done to find a solution for these phenomena namely the development of a wear and corrosion resistant ceramic coating by High Energy Plasma Spaying. Innovating is the way of finishing these surfaces in terms of topography. Low Ra roughness with orientation of no peaks but only valleys in combination with low Rz and high materials contact area will not only contribute in no stick-slip

properties but also in extending the life time of the applied seals. Geometry in terms of diameter and length is no limitation. Projects for the Panama Canal and Saemangeum are recently realized. An overview of thermal spraying in general will be given, quality control of powder and manufacturing methods, testing methods and results as well as applications on repair, new and OEM.
